It’s nearly a month since BWC’s Gold Panellist event ‘Become Financially Savvy with Gold & Profit from it in 2012’ back in January and what a great day of positive and productive learning!

The panellists of Minesh Bhindi of Gold for Life, Marcus Matthews of Gold and Silver Global and Domnic Frisby of MoneyWeek.com were all on point and the event attendees interacted with them enthusiastically, gaining new knowledge and ideas on how to not only use gold and other precious metals to preserve their savings but prosper from it also.

Since the event the US has put an embargo on Iran and China and India have circumnavigated this by purchasing Iranian oil with gold. The UK has hit the £1 trillion mark and the Bank of England have done another round of money printing aka quantitative easing  to the tune of £50billion, which as a symptom of cause and effect, will inject more inflation into the economy!! The Eurozone is still in state of disrepair, so of course all these elements affect the price of gold as well as continues to compound the reasons why one needs to become financially savvy about, and, with gold.

As such I am holding a webinar this evening – Monday 13^th February – on the important topic of Gold and Pensions. Last wrote about the 30 day YouTube video business challenge that I started with 29 other great female-prenuers last week, entitled ‘Progress over Perfection’, and thus far it has been a hoot!

6 videos have now been completed with another 24 to go!  In that time I have learnt how to edit my recordings in the Flip camera software, Windows Media Movie Maker and YouTube! Yes, you can now edit your videos in Youtube.  I am now learning all about Camatasia! That is a whole lot of learning in one week!! And it hasn’t necessarily been easy! There was one day it took me over 2 hours to record a 3  minute video then another 2 hours editing it and uploading it! Believe me I was not happy!

But it is these shared experiences which ensures me that by the end of this challenge lifelong friends and business associates will have been made, new skills developed, old ones honed and new things pertaining to business, self development, love, health and professional development will have been shared and learnt by all participating; be it by creating the videos or watching them! So on that note, I am very happy and privileged to have, at least,  the opportunity to do this!

As I wrote in my New Year’s blog – ‘What is Your One Word for 2012?’ My one word is progression or I thought it was! It is actually ‘breakthrough’ which a form of progression! So my aim on this challenge is to of course, to actually stick to it! But, in addition to that ensure I stay focus on progression rather than perfection!

After this very challenge I am sure life will never be the same again, in the sense that new habits will have been formed, new skills required and new connections created! Wish me luck!

It is only 24 days into 2012 and we are already celebrating another New Year! This time it is the Chinese New Year – The Year of the Dragon. A year which, I read is great for starting a new business, as the dragon is a major symbol of good fortune in Chinese Astrology.

Due to the Dragon constellation being accorded the honour of being the guardian of the Eastern sky, the Dragon brings in the Four Blessings of the East: wealth, virtue, harmony and longevity.

1. Dreams to Reality: The dragon is the ONLY mythical animal on the Chinese zodiac. It is the link between the imaginary world and the real world and has a special place in Chinese culture (In the same way you cannot deface a US flag in America, you cannot deface a dragon image in China). In the last several months the crisis of the UK Pension System has come to the forefront of the UK media, revealing to many that the promises of old ‘get a safe and secure job, pay into your pension and retired with peace of mind’ have simply been that: promises based on an old and now defunct paradigm.

Max Keiser of the Keiser Report talks about this quite bluntly in the video below -

Further to the above the 2011 Annual Scottish Widow report on Women and Pensions, highlighted the following:

-  Gender disparity in earnings still sees men save as much as £700 more than women a year.

- The average man saves £4,158 a year, compared to £3,457 a year for women, including any employer contributions into their pensions.

-  23% of women compared with 17% of men are saving nothing at all towards their retirement

- 71% of women say they can’t afford to save long term, compared to 60% of men.

With the various plans to shakeup the public pension system – i.e work longer for less contribution, which resulted in the one of the UKs biggest public sector strikes in a generation; the introduction of the mandatory workplace pension scheme  NEST; – many individuals, particularly women as a majority of women work in the public sector and due to redundancies in that area are experiencing 23 year high unemployment rate, need to become financially savvy about Pensions and alternatives to protecting it from the grasps of a ‘financially’ broken government.

 Having one key word simplifies things and helps one to focus. A book, or even book audio, gives you something to anchor your year against.  When thinking about your word and book consider where you were last year and what your expectations were at that time? On reviewing this, what would you say were your main achievements then, and if anything, what would you change and why?

Last year I officially started my speaking career and during the course of the year I had the opportunity to run my own wealth creation event called Infinitely Wealthy Women with my business partner on that project, Elena Theodorou of Passion meets Profits. We had speakers at the event who I had been following for a while and whom I hold in high esteem! It was a great event, with amazing feedback but a totally unexpected and unplanned achievement. There were also many teachable moments to move forward with, which we will be doing for our next event on March 3^rd and 4^thof this year.

So my word for 2012 is PROGRESS. It is no longer about perfection but progress! And I plan to progress to new levels of success and achievements in 2012! To make this happen I have -

• Begun a 9 month training programme with Dr Joanna Martin called ‘The feminine Way to Wealth’, to create my business using my ‘feminine flow’ rather than the masculine! Awesome training!
• Booked my place on Sohail Khan – The JV Broker’ business growth Mastermind! I already had a strategy session with him and it was really good! Remember ‘we don’t know what we don’t know!’
• Acquired an awesome Book Coach, Mr Warren Whitlock, to get that goal and life-long dream accomplished this year- excited!!
• And finally, I am consulting with the dynamic and very knowledgeable funding and business exit specialist –Mr Dave Lavinsky, who is helping me to bring focus to the direction I want to take my business ultimately. So another good one!

Cool beans aye?! And as the saying goes ‘learning is earning’!

So, what is your one word, and why that word?  As well as what actions will you be taking to implement that word into action? Please do share below! By doing so you may inspire someone in a way you (or I) never expected!

Finally, and as mentioned, what key self development book will you be learning from throughout 2012? Last year for me it was the GINtastic audio book ‘Your Wish is Your Command’ by the GIN council; this year it will be the awesome and profound book ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz.

The Four Agreements was introduced to me by a friend and wonderful business woman, Yvonne Witter, and it simply captured my imagination! It

is just great and really resonates with me and where I am at, at this present moment in time! It reminds me of the superb allegorical novel ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelhohe, in its tone and imagery; however The Four Agreements is a work of non-fiction rather than fiction.

So what are the four agreements? They are -

1. Be impeccable with your words. (Do you know what impeccable means? Thought provoking when you do!)
2. Don’t take anything personally
3. Don’t make assumptions
4. Always do your best

Great aren’t they?! And so simple!

It’s time to become financially savvy with your money & save in a new way!

It is that time of year again! The time when the masses of the world wind down to spend quality time with friends and family, appreciate their lot in life; and some of course, to celebrate the reason of the season – the birth of Jesus Christ, our saviour.

It is also the time when many go mad, get stressed and are put under pressure, to purchase the latest ‘must haves but not necessarily need have’ gifts.

With many pulling in their belts due to their own personal economic situation and inflationary prices in the economy, I thought it significant we go back to basics and remind ourselves of the first ever Xmas gifts.

Past

The first ever gifts given on Christmas day were from the three Magi, otherwise known as the wise men or even the three kings.

As the biblical story goes, the three wise men followed the Star of David to Bethlehem where they found the stable, the birth place of Jesus Christ. Each one brought a gift – Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Each gift had a ‘real’ value as well as a symbolic one.

Myrrh was renowned for its strong antiseptic and anti-inflammatory property so was regularly used for healing wounds and as an ingredient in the holy anointing oil (EX.30:23-33). Myrrh would have been symbolic of the embalming that Jesus would have to go through after his death on the cross. Ultimately, Myrrh would signify suffering.

Frankincense is aromatic and is primarily used as incense and in perfumes. It would have been a soothing gift for a family, and symbol of Jesus’ priestly office.

Gold as a gift symbolises virtue and was a common gift given to royalty because of its exclusivity and monetary worth; values still held today. It would have also been a much needed financial help to Mary and Joseph at that time.

Gold again, is prominent feature in the story of how Christmas stockings came to being; read it here! Again, it was given as a symbolic gift and monetary gift which is occasionally represented by the orange – a ball of gold!

Myrrh and frankincense are not two products that we hear much about but gold is the word on the lips of the everyday person due to its continuous rise in price over the last 10 years. 

Merryn Somerset Webb, editor of MoneyWeek writes “Gold has had a good year. It’s been the best-performing asset class out there:up 13%, more than all stock and bond markets and up more against the dollar than any other currency.”

Thus, Gold as a present today, especially because of our unstable global economy, makes a worthy and practical one.  And for those in the know it doesn’t have to be expensive. You can start purchasing gold from as little as 50e a month!!! As the saying goes, it is better to have some quality (99.9 24k) gold than none! Furthermore, now is still a good time to buy as with the continuation of financial manipulation and repression, as well as money printing by government heads – gold could hit the $2000 an ounce mark later next year.

Present

However, the most important gift one can ever give to another is one’s sincere and loving presence!!  And this, of course, can be at any time of year.  Tragedies, disappointments, joys will afflict and touch us – but it is these things that make us who we are – human! By sharing these same said moments with loved ones it adds value and depth to our relationships. It is for this reason we must be positives sources of light for each other…give, share, appreciate and love.  There is a reason why the gift of today is called the present; so let your positive presence be the best present you give someone tomorrow and for all the other days of the year.

Future

Finally, the future! What the future holds and what you are able to give next year and throughout depends on you. No one knows tomorrow but the difference between who you are and who you want to be, in order give what you want and make a difference, is dependent on what you do! It is as simple as that! So what will you do differently this coming year in contrast to this year to make it a better one? Please do share!
